The Dance Teacher is the story of a complex and broken individual who has chosen the dark path of manipulation and power.
The Dance Teacher
Studio 16, 1555 West 7th Avenue
1. Tell us about your show.
A guy has been accused of sexually assaulting children – he says he’s innocent….is he? Pieces from his life are played out – his first sexual encounter with a woman – dating an older guy – meeting his former dance teacher – Then he’s arrested and interrogated. All the evidence is there. Is he guilty or innocent? Is he really guilty, but also a victim? Or is he a conniving devious scumbag who prey’s on the weak and vulnerable? It’s really a good story.
2. Why should someone come see your show?
You’ll talk about it. People who see it disagree on whether Justin is guilty or innocent. You’ll talk about it, and you’ll talk about it for a long time afterwards. There are little things in it that help make it an experience that will get inside your head.
3. If your show was a superhero which superhero would it be, and why?
The Shadow. The Shadow is always present, but never takes centre stage. Good lighting removes shadows, but our story lives in the shadows. “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men ….The Shadow knows”.
4. If you could see only one show at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, besides your own, what show would that be?
NeOn. I don’t really know why. I met someone from it and really liked the person and I thought, “I am so coming to see your show!”
The 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival runs September 8-18 on Granville Island and stages around town. Visit http://vancouverfringe.com for tickets and information.
