Mind of a Snail’s Multiple Organism is a genre and gender-bending surrealist comedy for adults (18+). Expect bizarre and hilarious nudity using the nude body as a projection surface, plus colourful, layered shadow puppetry projections.
Why should someone come see your show?
Audiences in Vancouver who are familiar with our style of shadow puppetry have come to expect a show that’s for all ages. In Multiple Organism we decided to open up our process by making a show that’s just for adults (18+). This is the first time we’ve used gender and sexuality as thematic starting points for making a new shadow show. The result has been lots of fun, by pushing past our own boundaries to create a feminist work that is meaningful to us and that also doesn’t take itself too seriously. Come once, and if you enjoy it, come again!
If your show was a superhero which superhero would it be, and why?
The mystical love child of painter Frida Kahlo and Jeff Goldblum’s character in The Fly.
If you could see only one show at the Vancouver Fringe this year, besides your own, what show would that be?
A David Lynch Wet Dream sounds really intriguing. I don’t know anything about it other than the title.
#FringeDuJour is a daily peek at some of the shows coming to this year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival. We’ve asked Fringe artists to answer a few questions to entice you to see what they have to offer and to help cross-pollinate the Fringe.
The 2017 Vancouver Fringe Festival runs September 7-17 on Granville Island and stages around town. Visit http://vancouverfringe.com for tickets and information.
