Surrey Civic Theatres goes virtual with its continuing Digital Stage series, an initiative to support local artists and performers with shows that audiences can enjoy from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Next in the series is the FUSIONpresents Artist Showcase featuring Ranj Singh and Sami Ghawi, set to play on both the Surrey Civic Theatres Facebook page and the City of Surrey YouTube channel on July 24.

The show will include an hour of original songs, classic rock and folk favourites from the 1960s-1980s featuring two friends who met at the 2018 Surrey Arts and Business Awards. Both with their own solo careers, this showcase will be the first time the two artists will perform together.

Ghawi, who has hosted the Sunday Night Jam at West Beach in White Rock for more
than a decade, and is also a huge advocate for music and arts in Surrey, said he is
thrilled to be a part of this new City of Surrey initiative.

“Being offered a platform to perform and get paid when all our scheduled shows have been cancelled overnight is a huge blessing,” he says. “I think audiences will enjoy an hour of quality entertainment that’s engaging, and one that’s also a community builder that brings us all together. Shows like this are a window of connection, a way to enjoy company, music, and to communicate, which has high value for us all.”

The City of Surrey’s performing arts manager Kent Gallie says the Digital Stage will connect artists and audiences during this time when gathering at venues is not possible.

“We also continue to be committed to finding opportunities to support emerging and established local artists to continue to practice their craft professionally during this
challenging time for all artists,” he says.

Past shows in the series have included the Pat Chessell Trio and children’s performances from the likes of Charlotte Diamond. In August, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumental Devon More will take to the Digital Stage in Write the Future.
