On Saturday, September 15, The Dance Centre will throw open its doors for another a year, offering visitors a chance to sample a host of dance styles in a day of free open classes, studio showings, and events.

Not only an opportunity to explore the building designed by renowned architect Arthur Erickson, the daylong Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House will feature a variety of dance styles including ballet, contemporary, flamenco and swing.

Participating companies and artists include Kababayang Pilipino, Karen Flamenco, Shot of Scotch, Polymer Dance, Vanessa Goodman/Action at a Distance, Anderson Performance Clinic, and more.

Highlights will include an introduction to the history and culture of Pow Wow, covering the basic steps of different styles with Nyla Carpentier of Raven Spirit Dance. Kim Sato, artistic director of Vancouver’s Project Soul will lead a class in hip hop.

In addition, BC’s leading Filipino performance ensemble Kababayang Pilipino will highlight the rich diversity and culture of the Philippines with a program of exciting and beautiful dances.

The day will culminate in with Vanessa Goodman/Action at a Distance sharing work and processes she has been developing during the Yulanda M Faris Choreographers Program.

The Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House takes place Saturday September 15 from 11am-5pm. Pre-registration is not required and all classes are suitable for all levels, including beginner. Visit thedancecentre.com for more information.
