2018 Vancouver International Improv Festival
An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until October 13, 2018
Comedy fans will enjoy over 30 interactive performances, inspiring workshops and an opening night gala to celebrate of Vancouver’s booming improv scene.
This year’s festival welcomes headliners Orange Tuxedo from Los Angeles (photo above), The 1992 Chicago Bulls from Dallas, RÅ Power from Edmonton, and more. Vancouver favourites such as The Sunday Service, Shakespeare After Dark and Vancouver TheatreSports will also be showcased.
“There is something for everyone at the 2018 Vancouver International Improv Festival,” said festival director Alistair Cook. “We have The Wadsworth Constant from Philadelphia performing an absurdist play, Shakespeare After Dark performing a Shakespearean tragedy with a drunk performer, and Kickstand Comedy from Portland will perform a show inspired by the music of a live local band. No matter what your favourite style of comedy or theatre, you will have a great time.”
Audiences will recognize actors from The X-Files, DC’s Legends of Tomorrowand Comedy Central’s Drunk History onstage at the festival’s three venues, Performance Works, Red Gate Revue and Havana Theatre. We have shows at 7:30 and 9:30 every night with each evening spotlighting six different acts at each venue.
The festival will also feature two unique groups created specially for VIIF 2018: an International Ensemble with some of the best improvisors in the world.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these artists to try new forms of improv, and for audiences to see these performers work together,” said Amy Shostak, Festival Producer. “These shows will challenge the performers, and the end result as going to be as entertaining as it is surprising.”
Finally, the festival is also presenting a series of world-class workshops with instructors from Minneapolis, Austin, Los Angeles, Toronto Philadelphia and Gothenburg Sweden. Participants will learn a variety of improv skills that are useful on and off stage.
Vancouver International Improv Festival is one of North America’s longest running improv festivals.
