PAL Studio Theatre and Performing Arts Lodge (PAL) Vancouver in collaboration with the Coal Harbour Residents’ Association (CHRA) are pleased to present the second annual Coal Harbour Music Festival.
The festival kicks off with a special opening night twilight concert with the much-loved master of rhythms Celso Machado on August 7 at 7pm in Coal Harbour Park. The rest of the fest then moves indoors to the gem of Coal Harbour – PAL Studio Theatre.
“We’ve got another stellar line-up this year including epic performers The Sojourners, Tonye Aganaba and Alfie Zappacosta.” said co-producer Astrid Sars.
“It’s great to be working with the CHRA and again receiving a cultural grant from the City of Vancouver to fund a portion of this year’s festival. We hope to break down barriers of all kinds with inclusive free events, support for emerging local artists, and activities for all ages,” added co-producer Karen Woodman.
The free Coal Harbour Twilight Jazz Series, the mainstay of the festival which began as a project of the CHRA, features Celso Machado, Anagram, Malleus Trio, and The Emily Chambers Duo. Family Day is back with lots of fun from the zany Greenhorn Community Band to “gotta dance” of the Rugcutters Swing Band to storytelling and face-painting with children’s favourites the Dixie Stars.
“It’s a wonderful event bringing the neighbourhood together through music and a great opportunity for us to partner with PAL”, said CHRA board member Loretta Sieben. “It’s exciting to see CHRA’s Jazz in the Park blossom into a full festival that adds so much more for the community.”
