Annie Iversen is a middle-class suburban mother whose life is thrown into chaos when her son, Peter, falls in love with Julie, radical eco-activist whose uncompromising beliefs and magnetic personality threaten to derail Peter’s bright future in business.
As Annie sits stranded on a kayak in the middle of the Georgia Strait, eating S’mores and struggling with her broken GPS, she is forced to confront her own questionable morality, her hatred for Julie, and her unflinching love for her family.
“At its heart, Kayak is about the life that we want for ourselves and for the people we love,” says director Sloan Thompson. “Unfortunately, because of climate change, that life is slipping further and further out of our grasp. When people walk out of the theatre at the end of this play, I want them to ask themselves, ‘What can I do to stop this disaster and protect the people that I love?’ If we can move people so much that they want to fight, then the show will have been a success.”
