Chicago's award-winning Manual Cinema creates a unique biographical narrative by pairing of high-tech digital equipment and old-school overhead projectors. Photo by Julia Miller.

The late poet was a radical and disruptive presence within the national literary scene, becoming the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1950. In this ambitious creation, innovative art-collective Manual Cinema collaborates with Chicago-based poets Eve L. Metamorphosis depicts the constantly changing nature of our existence and our perception. Nothing remains the way it seems – it doesn’t matter what we see but how we see it. Iceland's Master Puppeteer, Bernd Ogrodnik brings a collection of original short stories to life through the metaphorical grace of puppetry.  The vignettes range from the trivial to the metaphysical and emphasize the imagery made possible only through the surrealistic quality inherent in puppetry. Watch a life slowly unfold through the sound equipment used to capture it. In Reverberations, audiences are divided into small groups of 20 to rove through five different performance spaces. Based on the memories of writer and award-winning sound designer Brian Linds, multiple sound mediums are mixed with live performance to replay key moments from Brian’s life: his parents’ love story, a childhood act of betrayal, his Bar Mitzvah, his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and a moment of lucidity his mother…
