Megan's Making It!: a 40th Cabaret

Event Details

Megan Phillips was sick of being asked her 40th birthday plans… she didn’t have any.

“I don’t like partying or the sun, so I knew Vegas and Mexico were out,” remarks Phillips, “but I did want to commemorate the 40th milestone. Birthdays are about taking stock of who we are in this moment of time and I realized, ‘I have a lot to celebrate. So let’s celebrate!’”

And Megan’s Making It!: a 40th Cabaret was born.

Phillips, a Vancouver-raised comedian, singer, songwriter, actor, & writer, has been making art professionally for over 20 years. Trained in Musical Theatre Performance, she pivoted to writing her own work after a car accident affected her ability to take on regular contracts. Since then, she’s transitioned to comedy (stand-up and sketch), and her award-winning solo shows have toured North America, with work produced all over the world – most notably Theatre Works in Melbourne, AUS.

“Making It! is a tribute to Mid-Life Incoming: the tough stuff like career bumps, dating struggles, and self-doubt – but also the gushy stuff – like our growth, our fortitude, and the power of community.”

It’s all done in a style popularized in New York cabaret venues: original songs (mostly comedic) are mixed with pop/musical theatre covers and stand-up/written spoken banter, performed with a full band and special guests. The show is, in her words, “a 2-act Megan-abration. It will make you laugh so hard you cry…. or cry so hard you laugh… or maybe just pee a bit now that you’re older… but most of all, we want to prepare you for the next 40 years.”
