The Vancouver Theatresports League’s newest improvised show, The Big Picture – An Improvised Movie, opens next week at the Improv Centre on Granville Island. Here are five reasons you should go:
1. As the summer movie blockbusters start to fill the cinemas around town, we can’t think of a better time for a show like this one. From the newest installment of Independence Day to the all-female cast of the new Ghostbusters movie, they all become fodder for the Vancouver TheatreSports League’s (VTSL) unique brand of humour.
2. You can be part of the
movie show too! Integral to what the VTSL does on stage, everything is based on audience suggestions each night.
3. The first half of the evening sees audience suggestions determining the genre of a yet-to-be-made blockbuster, along with other elements such as the characters, location, plot components and era. In the second half of the show, the ensemble improvises a performance of the entire ‘movie’ utilizing all the components that were determined by the audience in the first half.
4. The fan fiction possibilities are endless. Will Professor Dumbledore and Gandalf finally meet? Perhaps Indiana Jones will be eaten by the great white shark of Jaws? Or maybe E.T. and Wall-E will ride off into the sunset together.
5. With 36 years of creating funny things from nothing, the VTSL pedigree is undeniable, all presented from the comforts of the lovely Improv Centre on Granville Island.
The Big Picture – An Improvised Movie plays every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. from June 30 to August 27 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Visit http://vtsl.com for tickets and information.
