Summer in Vancouver is traditionally festival season and this year is no different. Here are five festivals you don’t want to miss this August:
1. Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival (Aug 10-12)
The Community Arts Council of Vancouver presents the second annual Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival. The three day multidisciplinary festival features visual and performing artists facing social exclusion and other barriers. More information at cacv.ca.
2. Coal Harbour Music Festival (Aug 15-29)
Coal Harbour’s PAL Studio Theatre and Performing Arts Lodge Vancouver team up with the Coal Harbour Residents’ Association to launch the Coal Harbour Music Festival. This new jazz-infused fest includes a variety of free and paid concerts during the month. More information at palvancouver.org.
3. Tremors Festival (Aug 16-25)
Rumble Theatre presents Tremors, a festival of emerging talent it features a young company of 38 emerging theatre artists who will direct, design, stage manage, tech, produce, and perform in three contemporary Canadian plays. More information at rumble.org.
4. Vancouver Tap Dance Festival (Aug 20-24)
The 19th Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival features classes, workshops, tap jams and public performances over its five days. The festival culminates with #TapDance, combines a hand-picked roster of dancers and musicians in a celebration of the genre. More information at vantapdance.com.
5. Vancouver International Guitar Festival (Opens July 12)
Guitar builders, players, collectors and aficionados gather at the Creekside Community Centre for the Vancouver International Guitar Festival. This year’s fest offers music, master classes, special events, and the opportunity to see, hear and play some of the world’s finest handmade stringed instruments.
