Okay, we know. Halloween hasn’t even happened yet and here we are, talking about Christmas. But for good reason, as Align Entertainment gets an early start on the often crowded holiday season with a production of A Christmas Story: The Musical (Nov 2-17 at Burnaby’s  Michael J. Fox Theatre).  Here are five reasons we think you should go:

1. A holiday classic from a holiday classic

Align’s production is a heartfelt Broadway adaptation of Jean Shepherd and Bob Clark’s 1983 movie, A Christmas Story. As with the film, it is the story of 9-year-old Ralphie Parker, who wants nothing more for Christmas than an official Red Ryder Carbine Action BB gun.

2. Updated for the stage

This musical adaptation contains fresh surprises for fans of the film, while continuing to revisit its iconic scenes, including trips to Higbee’s downtown window displays, shopping for Christmas trees, and life lessons learned along the way. And, of course, the leg lamp.

3. A coming-of-age tale for the whole family

The story is a celebration of childhood and imaginative discovery, a family-friendly experience that will hit home with anyone who ever desperately wanted a toy during the holidays.

4. Tony nominated

The musical comedy premiered on Broadway in 2012, receiving three Tony Award nominations.

5. A musical score from the creators of La La Land and The Greatest Showman

The musical is set to an infectiously delightful score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The work’s enchanting songs include: “It All Comes Down to Christmas,” “Ralphie to the Rescue!” and the energetic “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!”
