Early Music Vancouver (EMV) has announced a “light-filled” 2023-2024 concert line-up in its 54th season.

“EMV’s 54th season explores the theme of light in works by Handel, Bach and Monteverdi, as well as the ancient music from North India, Persia and Afghanistan,” says EMV’s artistic and executive director Suzie LeBlanc. “Inspired by Apollo, the Olympian god of light, music and poetry, we wish to celebrate everything that shines, from the sun and moon to the luminous artists of today’s early music.”
The season will present artists from Canada, the United States, Europe, India, and the Middle East, beginning with its season opener, Handel’s cantata Apollo e Dafne, on September 15.
The 2023-2024 season will include the mini winter festival, Lumen, with three concerts over three days in early January, exploring the intersections between early music, contemporary works, jazz, and improvisation.
Additional highlights in the 14 concert season include traditional music from India, Afghanistan and Iran, with The Golden Road in November and Handel’s Messiah in December. The season comes to a close in April 2024 with The Tallis Scholars.
