Leonard Cohen is one of Canada’s most prolific and, judging by the multitude of cover songs attributed to the legend, one of its best loved artists.

Starting out as a one-off Cohen tribute night before a packed house at Vancouver’s Media Club, Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone have continued to perform together as Tower of Song, joining forces to tour and record their arrangements of Cohen’s timeless songs.

After several sold-out shows on Vancouver Island and a successful tour of BC and Alberta, Tower of Song put “more power in the tower,” recording their debut album In City and In Forest, with Juno award winning producer Joby Baker.

The artists trade songs on the album, with Swain’s multiple octaves taking the lead on True Love Leaves No Traces, Baby in the Bay, Stranger Song, and A Thousand Kisses, while Garramone’s sweet and smooth voice takes care of Everybody Knows, Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye, Unicorn, Chelsea Hotel #2, and Take This Waltz.

Each backs the other up with luscious harmonies, with both vocals shining unmistakably and accompanying themselves on guitar, banjo, string bass and piano. Rounding out the recording are Joby Baker(drums/percussion), Richard Moody (violin/viola) and Quinn Bachand (guitar).

In City and In Forest is now available on iTunes and CD Baby.  They play Vancouver’s Rogue Folk Club on May 9.  Visit http://towerofsongmusic.com for more information.
