During this time of physical distancing, to honour this year’s World Theatre Day on March 27, several Vancouver playwrights are among the 29 artists scheduled to appear in a seven-hour virtual play reading relay hosted by the Playwrights Guild of Canada.

Now underway, the playwrights will live-stream 10-minute readings of their plays via Zoom. The event will conclude at 3:00 pm Pacific (6:00 pm Eastern) on March 27.

Among the local artists who will read from their works include (all times adjusted for Vancouver):

9:45 am – Marcus Youssef
10:15 am – Omari Newton & Amy Lee Lavoie
2:00 pm – Dave Deveau
2:30 pm – Christine Quintana
2:45 pm – C.E. Gatchalian

Viewers are encouraged to donate to Playwrights Guild of Canada as a way to acknowledge the playwright’s work and to create more opportunities to assist them financially in these difficult times.

The mission of the Playwrights Guild of Canada is: “To advance the creative rights and interests of professional Canadian playwrights, promote Canadian plays nationally and internationally, and foster an active, evolving community of writers for the stage.” Visit playwrightsguild.ca for more information.
