Before The Curtain Goes Up: Shalem’s Fair

Shalem's Fair plays at the Jericho Arts Centre in Vancouver from May 5-20.

Youtheatre Movement presents Shalem’s Fair, a sensitive comedy about death, dementia, and our true heroes of yesteryear.

Rhoda is on her way to the train station to collect her husband, or so she thinks. With a touch of cosmic absurdity, Rhoda encounters a series of endearing characters on their way to the County Fair, or so she thinks. They all seem to know her and honour her accordingly as she struggles to connect the dots trying to make sense of everything unfolding. This timeless tale is spun with comedy and heartfelt moments, all pointing to the mystery of who Rhoda really is, where she is going, and what will happen next.

In this edition of Before The Curtain Goes Up, Vancouver Presents contributor David C Jones speaks with playwright and director Lee Jay Bamberry and actor Jennifer Bamberry, who plays Rhoda, to learn more.

Shalem’s Fair plays at the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery St, Vancouver) from May 5-20. Visit youtheatresociety.com for tickets and information.
