Broadway’s longest running musical returns to Vancouver as part of the upcoming Broadway Across Canada season.
First up in the touring presenter’s 2017/2018 season is Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera (July 11-23). Part of a new North American tour, this Phantom includes a new design, new choreography, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor. Along with the new elements are the original Tony Award-winning costume design by Maria Björnson, and lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable. Phantom purists need not be concerned though, as the show’s legendary chandelier will still make an appearance.
In late summer the hills come alive with a brand new production of The Sound of Music (Sep 12-17). With the film version recently celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical continues to attract audiences with its romantic story of Maria and the von Trapp Family.
Next up is the return of the Jersey Boys (Nov 14-19). The true story of The Four Seasons (Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi), this Tony Award-winning musical recounts how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history.
The 2017/2018 Broadway Across Canada season concludes with the new Broadway musical, Motown The Musical (Feb 6-11). Another true story, this one tells that of of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more.
