The 2016/2017 Broadway Across Canada season will see the return of The Book of Mormon, along with the musicals Newsies, Kinky Boots and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Opening the season is Disney’s Newsies (July 5-10, 2016). Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards for best score and best choreography, Newsies is based on true events as it tells its story of a band of underdogs who become unlikely heroes when they stand up to the most powerful men in New York.

In the new year, the Tony Award winning Kinky Boots (February 7-12, 2017) finds its way to Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Another musical based on true events, it is the story of how one family business is ultimately saved by the most unlikely of sources. With songs by Grammy and Tony winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is the winner of six Tony Awards including best musical and best score.

Next up is  Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (April 11-16, 2017), a contemporary take on this classic tale from the creators of Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music and South Pacific.

Closing out the season is the return of The Book of Mormon, the irreverent musical from the creators of South Park. Winner of nine Tony Awards including best musical, this outrageous musical comedy follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread the “good word”
