Just in time for the Halloween season, The Snapshots Collective presents the ghoulish musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Performed at Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop in Vancouver’s historic Gastown, this immersive, site-specific production, will bring audiences up-close and personal with the demon barber himself.

Created by the Tony Award-winning team of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler, the musical tells the tale of Sweeney Todd, a barber unjustly imprisoned by the corrupt Judge Turpin. Returning to 19th century London after 15 years of Australian imprisonment, he sets out to take his revenge on the man who took him from his wife and young daughter.

Todd’s need for vengeance becomes savagely murderous, and profitable, when he partners with the cunningly clever Mrs. Lovett and opens his new barbershop above her bankrupt meat pie shop. With his busy straight razors and her new “secret” ingredient, their fame grows until Todd comes face to face with the judge.

Vancouver Presents contributing editor Mark Robins paid a visit to Mrs Lovett’s Pie Shop to get a sneak peek from the company and to learn more from director Chris Adams, choreographer Nicol Spinola and the stars of the show, Warren Kimmel (Sweeney Todd) and Colleen Winton (Mrs Lovett).
