In a media release today, the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society announced Laura Efron will join the the Fringe as its new executive director.
Chosen from more than sixty applications from as far away as California and Ottawa, Efron will take over from David Jordan, who departs to take up an opportunity with the City of Burnaby. Jordan had served in the role for twelve years.
A professional arts administrator for twenty years, Efron has previously worked with a number of established theatre organizations in Vancouver, including Rumble Theatre, the Arts Club Theatre Company, the Firehall Arts Centre, and Capilano University’s BlueShore Centre.
Efron’s history with the Vancouver Fringe Festival goes back to her days as a volunteer in 1997, shortly after moving to the city.
“Since then, I have enthusiastically attended the festival as a member of the theatre community, been a donor, and helped facilitate Fringe shows at the Firehall Arts Centre during my time as the general manager,” she says in the media release. “I am excited to take on this role because of the opportunity to be surrounded by such enthusiastic volunteers and artists and to be part of a team that is working hard to provide theatre for everyone.”
Efron will officially start her role as the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society’s executive director on December 11 of this year.
