A wee dram, a few laughs and an epic dance performance are on tap this week on Vancouver stages.
Here is something a little different. It might not be on a stage, but all you Scotch (and more) lovers will probably want to make your way to the Hopscotch Festival (17-23 Nov). The week-long festival includes more than 30 events that culminates with “The Grand Tasting Hall” on Friday and Saturday nights at the PNE Forum. Organizers tell us that events are almost sold-out so if you’re into a wee dram of whisky you’ll want to get your tickets soon.
The Vancouver Theatresports League returns for the holiday season with another edition of Christmas Queen: Improv Comedy Fairytale (Nov 19-Dec 21). The show our reviewer called “a perfect holiday treat” last year, Christmas Queen is an improvised story based on suggestions from the audience and the imaginations of the actors on stage. A new show each night based on those random ideas, the common thread for each performance is the evil Queen bent on ruining Christmas.
Epic (Nov 19-22) is an understatement for dance lovers this week as SFU School for the Contemporary Arts presents new works Crystal Pite + Kidd Pivot, Wen Wei Wang and Katie DeVries performed by SFU Repertory Dancers, Arts Umbrella Graduate Program Dancers, Modus Operandi Dancers. With over 60 dancers performing in three premieres this is a unique opportunity to witness Vancouver’s next generation of contemporary dancers as they emerge on the scene.
