Who runs the world? In the world of musical theatre it hasn’t always been the “girls”.

In Fabulist Theatre’s Better Than This: The Evolution Of Women In Musicals, the role of women in musical theatre is chronicled featuring songs from some of the last century’s most memorable musicals including West Side Story, Chicago, Wicked, and more.

This original new revue not only examines why certain tropes persist, but also looks at changing the narrative around the female voice in musicals.

Vancouver Presents contributing editor Mark Robins went inside East Vancouver’s Havana Theatre for a sneak peek from cast members Kyrst Hogan, Cathy Wilmot, Brianna Clark, and Dionne Phillips, plus a chat with the show’s creator and director Mary Littlejohn.

Better Than This continues at the Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial Dr, Vancouver) until March 9. Tickets are available at showpass.com.
