Meet Giorgio Magnanensi, Artistic Director of Vancouver New Music.

Meet Giorgio Magnanensi

Born and raised in Italy, Giorgio Magnanensi currently lives in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. His diverse artistic practice includes composition, conducting, improvisation, circuit–bending and video art. From the early 80’s to present he has been working as a composer, conductor, teacher, and performer in Europe, Japan and Canada. He is artistic director of Vancouver New Music, Laboratorio Arts Society and lecturer at the School of Music at the Vancouver Community College.  You can find out more at https://giorgiomagnanensi.com.

1. Your first job.

Teaching music theory and harmony to the musicians of a marching band on the hills near Bologna, Italy.

2. The job you always wanted as a child.

Astronaut.

Very dark chocolate.

I have sled on a few Alps glaciers in winter on full moon nights .. not really a great secret.

Food, wood, water.

8. The one word your best friend would use to describe you.

Inspired.

9. If you were not a performer what would you be doing right now?

Astronaut.

Harmonizing the heart and brain.

18.  If you could go forward in time, what will have been your greatest accomplishment in 10 years?

To have provided the opportunity to work/think/play with sound to many thousands more people, and in doing so to have been able to inspire more progressive and creative ideas and activities.
