Typically a quiet time of the year for us at Vancouver Presents, we thought it would be fun to run a 20 questions series featuring our contributors through the holidays. First up is theatre specialist, Chelsey Stuyt.

Meet Chelsey Stuyt

Chelsey Stuyt is an actor, writer, and comedian from the haggard edge of the GVRD. She’s the former producer/director of the hit comedies, Shakespeare After Dark, Talk Felty To Me, and the Outer-Middle Zone and spent six years traveling, teaching, and performing all over the world.

She currently lives in South Van where she writes jokes in her shed while overspending on gin, set dec, and black cats.

1. Your first job.

Selling wine as an 8-year-old in my grandfather’s fruit stand.

2. The job you always wanted as a child?

To be a lawyer or a pyrotechnician.

3. Your pet peeve.

A self-defeating attitude.

4. Your hero.

Alexandra David-Neel and Martha Gelhorn.

5. Your biggest indulgence.

Absurd objects.

6. One thing no one knows about you.

I mail supportive notes to my friends and family and leave them unsigned.

7. Three things you would want with you on a deserted island.

Plants, animals, and a subscription to Nintendo Power.

8. The one word your best friend would use to describe you.

Determined.

9. If you were not doing what you are doing now, what would you be doing?

Adventuring.

10. Hero or villain?

Hero.

11. Your life’s motto/mantra.

You can do it.

12. Your favourite playwright?

The one who thinks about the audience.

13. The last book you read.

Terry Pratchett’s “The Hogfather”.

14. If you were a cartoon character what cartoon character would you be?

Domino.

15. What will it say on your grave marker?

She did more than she should, and more than they thought she could.

16. Who would you most like to have dinner with?

My grandmothers.

17. Your idea of happiness.

A full day of getting things done, followed by a relaxing night with snappy conversation and gin.

18. If you could go back in time, what would you tell your twenty-year-old self?

You get more out of trying than you do thinking.

My partner.
