Meet Vancouver actor Lochlyn Munro.
For nearly thirty years Lochlyn has been “that guy,” a face you would recognize from his countless roles in film and television, even if you didn’t remember his name. A full-time actor, Munro splits his time between projects in Los Angeles and Vancouver. Most recently he has taken up a new challenge as he begins a partnership with New Image College’s Film Acting Conservatory to bring his insights on the industry to the next generation of young Vancouver actors.
Meet Lochlyn Munro
When a hockey injury at the age of eighteen sidelined Lochlyn Munro’s dreams of playing for the NHL, the Lac La Hache, B.C. native moved to Vancouver and immersed himself in the city’s music and arts scene where he played guitar, drums and performed as a singer. From there he took on acting, landed a role on 21 Jump Street, starring a young Johnny Depp, and hasn’t stopped working since. For twenty-eight years Lochlyn Munro has honed the craft he loves has become one of Vancouver’s – and Hollywood’s – most successful working actors today. Don’t believe us? Your first job.
Pumping diesel at a truck stop in Lac La Hache, British Columbia when I was 13. Yep….smelly and dirty!
The job you always wanted as a child.
When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a coach or a teacher of some sort. I was always greatly influenced by my school teachers and my sport coaches. I coach as many of my son’s and my daughter’s sports teams as I can. From hockey, to soccer, to baseball, to football. I think it is important to pass along the knowledge that we, ourselves, were once given by our leaders. That’s a lot of the reason I’m so excited about partnering with New Image College. I want to pass along all the great things that I have learned over my thirty year span in the entertainment business.
Your pet peeve.
Overly opinionated people. I think opinions and debates are great … just don’t think people should be narrow minded enough to think that their opinion is all that matters.
Your hero.
My hero is and always has been my dad. As a parent now myself, I really look back and recognize all the sacrifices and unselfish things my parents did in order for my siblings and I to have a great childhood.
Your biggest indulgence.
Probably my love for film. I try to see as many movies as I can. I love storytelling!
One thing no one knows about you.
My fear of rats. Shite … now you know!
Three things you would want with you on a deserted island.
My wife, my children and a genie bottle (do I really need to explain?)
The one word your best friend would use to describe you.
Push over.
If you were not an actor/teacher, what would you be doing right now?
I would probably love to be a sports anchor on television.
Hero or villain.
Villain. Soooooo much more fun! MWAHAHA!
Your life’s motto/mantra.
You don’t stop playin’ because you get old … you get old because you stop playin’!
Your favourite playwright?
Sam Shepard. I love how he is able to combine complexity of characters entwined in the simplest of settings.
The last book you read.
John Grisham’s “Gray Mountain”. Very gritty and raw.
If you were a cartoon character what cartoon character would you be and why?
Wyle E. Coyote. The little bugger takes a licking and keeps on ticking!
What will it say on your grave marker?
Oh, man … my grave marker. That makes me kinda sad, as I have a zest for life, man. Hmm … maybe it will say something like: “Here lies a man who loved his family more than life itself and treated people the way he, himself, would want to be treated”.
Who would you most like to have dinner with?
My Mom. She passed to suddenly and I miss her everyday. Would love to tell her how great her grandchildren are. Kinda teared up on this answer.
Your idea of happiness.
Watching my children in anything they do, and hoping they live their life to the fullest.
If you could go back in time, what would you tell your twenty year old self?
I think I would go back and tell myself to buy any and all Apple products! Ha! No, I think I would tell myself to not be too methodical in my approach on life.
The one thing in your life that makes you most proud.
How wonderful my wife is with our children and the absolute abyss of love she surrounds them with.
