The late poet was a radical and disruptive presence within the national literary scene, becoming the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1950. In this ambitious creation, innovative art-collective Manual Cinema collaborates with Chicago-based poets Eve L. Conceived and directed by the Nice-based theatrical maverick Gil Marsalla and starring Anne Carrere, a young French performer hailed as “Edith Piaf’s legitimate musical heiress”, Piaf! Cantus Male Vocal ensemble shares the stage with Canada’s beloved Chor Leoni in a collaborative concert to open the 2019 VanMan Male Choral Summit. Cantus, founded by Chor Leoni’s own Erick Lichte at St. Olaf college in 1995, arrives for its Vancouver debut in a concert which will feature the best of both ensembles and the full scope of male choral singing.
