Agnes of God and John & Beatrice
Agnes of God and John & Beatrice

This week its all about Agnes, John and Beatrice as Alchemy Theatre presents a story of a virgin conception in Agnes of God, and Vortex Theatre goes bilingual with both French and English versions of John & Beatrice.

[dropcap]1[/dropcap]Alchemy Theatre gets its season underway with a production of John Pielmeier’s Agnes of God (Nov 19-29). While its story of a nun who gives birth and insists the child is the result of a virgin conception may not sound like the typical holiday fare you find on stage this time of year, it has more in common with Christmas than you might think. It’s okay, we’ll wait while that one sinks in…

[dropcap]2[/dropcap]Vortex Theatre brings a bilingual production of Carole Fréchette’s John and Beatrice (Nov 25 – Dec 5), a clever adaptation of the Rapunzel fairy tale that deals in modern urban lonliness and the desire to connect. The show will be presented with an English translation by John Murrell the first week of its run, and in its original French in the second.
