Our picks this week: Angels in America & Saudade

Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika

Your best bet on stage right now is the Arts Club Theatre Company production of Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika (until Oct 8). Tony Kushner’s epic exploration of politics, religion, sexuality, and love against a backdrop of the 1980’s AIDS crisis, is an exhilarating marathon, and it may very well be one of the best things you’ll see on stage this year.

Saudade

Vancouver choreographer Joshua Beamish returns with his newest work, Saudade (Sep 20-23), a Portuguese word representing a deep, constant desire for a reality that does not, and probably cannot, exist. Featuring six male dancers, the work is a series of ghostly solos, duets, and group passages, accompanied by a cello score from Icelandic cellist, Hildur Guðnadóttir.
