This week, Angels in America continues its epic run, four mothers return to the stage, and Shakespeare gets a Bollywood-inspired makeover.
1. Angels in America
Langara College’s Studio 58 opens its 51st season with an epic production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches (until Oct 16). Coupled with some equally epic performances, the first of two 25th anniversary productions this season in Vancouver is more than worth its admission price.
Four theatre artists and mothers (Emelia Symington Fedy, Jody-Kay Marklew, Juno Rinaldi, and Sonja Bennett) return to The Cultch in Motherload (until Oct 15) with stories that will charm, delight and touch you.
3. Piya Behrupiya Twelfth Night
There must be something in the water in East Vancouver right now as our final pick this week also comes from The Cultch. We haven’t been this excited about Shakespeare since the Merry Wives of Windsor found themselves in 1960’s Windsor, Ontario. From Mumbai’s The Company Theatre, comes a Bollywood-inspired musical adaptation of the Bard’s Twelfth Night (Oct 11-22). Performed in Hindi with English surtitles.
