This week, politics continue to be manipulated at The Cultch, Turning Point Ensemble launches its season by welcoming EMC+ ensemble contemporain de Montréal, and Instant Theatre provides some Halloween laughs with an improvised Stranger Things parody.
1. Fight Night
Don’t let the title fool you, Fight Night (until Oct 29) has nothing to do with pugilism. In this invigorating interactive experience from Belgium’s Ontroerend Goed, the boxing ring becomes a metaphor for democracy.
Turning Point Ensemble launches its season with a performance by EMC+ ensemble contemporain de Montréal (Oct 25). Under the baton of Véronique Lacroix, the concert includes pieces from four emerging Canadian composers. The audience will even have an opportunity to vote for its favourite.
3. Wicked Creatures
With the success of Netflix’s Stranger Things this summer, it isn’t surprising to see it become fodder for a Halloween show. Instant Theatre opens its season with Wicked Creatures – A Halloween Comedy Event (Oct 27-29). The scares give way to laughs as the Vancouver improv company takes audiences back to the 80s, with its big hair and meddling kids.
