1Hand to God
Your best bet on stage this week is the foul-mouthed and blasphemous Hand to God (until June 25) from the Arts Club Theatre Company. What our reviewer called “wicked good”, this black comedy with puppets will have you laughing and questioning your own inner demons. A word of warning though, just because it has puppets doesn’t make this one suitable for the kiddies.
2These Are The Songs That I Sing When I’m Sad
Boca del Lupo presents These Are The Songs That I Sing When I’m Sad (Jun 7-10) from Toronto’s Nightswimming. Part of its micro-performance series, singer Jane Miller explores the relationship between sad songs and our feelings. Requests are encouraged.
3The Titan: VSO Season Finale
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) concludes its current season with The Titan: VSO Season Finale (Jun 10-12). VSO Bramwell Tovey revisits Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 ‘Titan’, the same symphony he started his music directorship with the VSO in 2000. The concert also features violinist Baiba Skride, mezzo-soprano Marion Newman, and a new composition by Tovey called Ancestral Voices.
