Hot Brown Honey

The Cultch celebrates the female experience this month with Femme January. First up, comes Hot Brown Honey (Jan 9-27) from Australia’s Briefs Factory. Described as something between a variety show and a nightclub act, it mixes dance, circus, physical performance, and hip hop in a rallying call for both feminism and people of colour.

The Pipeline Project

The Pipeline Project (Jan 10-20) returns to the stage, this time at Vancouver’s Firehall Arts Centre. Its timely content makes it a perfect candidate for a remount, as it explores the political conflicts surrounding Canada’s oil industry through the eyes of its creators. The play is followed each night by a facilitated discussion with a guest speaker.

The Zoo Story

Vancouver’s Sticks and Stones Theatre presents American playwright Edward Albee’s first play, The Zoo Story (Jan 10-13). Telling the story of an upper-middle-class man interrupted by a transient while reading in Central Park, their conversation soon takes a strange and deadly turn.
