Our picks this week: Nell Gwynn, Universal Gospel Choir & Mamma Mia!

Nell Gwynn (until Jun 24)

Women were first allowed to perform on an English stage in the 1660s under the rule of Charles II. Nell Gwynn is based on the true story of one of those women. From selling oranges, to her success as one of Britain’s most celebrated actresses (and mistress to the King himself), it is a Cinderella story about life in the 17th century theatre. Mamma Mia! (until Aug 12)

One of your best bets currently on stage continues to be what our reviewer called a “perfect summer addiction“. Mamma Mia! is the feel-good musical based on the hit songs of ABBA that may very well have you hooting (and maybe even dancing) from in your seat. More at artsclub.com.
