Our picks this week: The Drowsy Chaperone, Mary Poppins & The Two Gentlemen of Verona

It is not often we find three shows worthy of your entertainment dollars all playing at the same time. And then to have two of them playing on the same stage is unprecedented. This week though our picks include two under the stars, and one under a tent.

Vancouver’s Theatre Under the Stars is two-for-two this summer.  Playing on alternating nights, The Drowsy Chaperone is the more adult of the two shows, while Mary Poppins remains fun for the entire family. But you can’t go wrong with either. Now on stage at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl until August 19.

2The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Director Scott Bellis comes up with a solution for the problems in one of the Bard’s earliest works. In Two Gentlemen of Verona (until Sep 17), Bellis and his cast help demonstrate how it is possible to reinvent a 400-year old work.
