Our picks this week: The Princess Bride, The Dance Teacher & As You Like It

Evo Summer Cinema: The Princess Bride (July 3)

Every Tuesday until August 21, Fresh Air Cinema sets up their giant, four-storey, inflatable movie screen in Ceperley Meadow at Stanley Park’s Second Beach with a lineup of classics and favourites. A summer tradition in the jewel of Vancouver, Evo Summer Cinema kicks off its season with a screening of Rob Reiner’s romantic comedy fantasy adventure film, The Princess Bride. The Dance Teacher (July 5-22)

Vancouver’s Tomo Suru Players remounts its 2016 Vancouver Fringe show, The Dance Teacher. While it definitely contains challenging subject matter, our reviewer said it was the “intricate web of truths and lies that makes Gerald Williams’ script so compelling.” More at tomosuruplayers.com.

As You Like It (until September 22)

There are three musicals on Vancouver stages rights now vying for your attention, and while they all are terrific, there is only one that our reviewer said is “destined to be the hit of the summer”. The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival presents a mash-up of Shakespeare and Beatles’ music that will keep you in stitches. More at bardonthebeach.org.
