Vertical Influences, Mom's the Word & Parade

It isn’t often we see not one, not two, but three very different shows on ‘stages’ around town deserving of your attention.

1Vertical Influences

This dance/figure skating hybrid comes from the Montreal-based Le Patin Libre. Vertical Influences (until Apr 30) is what our reviewer called “a stunning combination of figure skating and dance”. Things really heat up in the second half when audiences join the skaters on the ice at the Britannia Rink for an entirely different view.

2Mom’s the Word 3: Nest 1/2 Empty

The moms are back and they still have plenty to say. They will also make you laugh, cringe, and cry. In Mom’s the Word 3: Nest 1/2 Empty (until May 20), the kids have moved out and now many of its stories are about married life, and aging parents. What our reviewer says is “open and truthful”, you’ll want to spend some time with these moms.

Its subject matter may be bleak, but our reviewer says “there are enough bright lights” in this community theatre production of Parade (until Apr 29) to pull us out of the darkness. Written nearly twenty years ago, about events which took place over a hundred, it still has plenty to say today.
