1. Straight Jacket Winter
Vancouver’s only professional French language theatre company, Théâtre la Seizième opens its 2016/17 season with a production of Straight Jacket Winter (Oct 18-29). A story that many Vancouver transplants can relate, it tells the story of Esther and Gilles who move from Montreal to Vancouver in the dead of winter, and attempt to integrate their adopted city. Performed in French with English surtitles on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
2. Walt Whitman’s Secret
the frank theatre company, Vancouver’s only professional LGBTQ theatre company, opens its 20th anniversary season with Walt Whitman’s Secret (until Oct 22). Adapted by playwright Sean O’Leary from the acclaimed novel by Vancouver-based George Fetherling, the play mines the life of the most influential poets in the American canon.
3. Israeli Chamber Project
Friends of Chamber Music present the Vancouver premier of the internationally acclaimed Israeli Chamber Project (Oct 18). The ensemble of piano, clarinet and strings performs a varied programme that has received accolades on both sides of the Atlantic.
