1The Winter’s Tale
Your best bet on stage right now is the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare production of The Winter’s Tale (until Sep 22). One of Shakespeare’s “problem plays” it is a mash-up of drama and comedy receiving a clarity of vision under the red and white tents at Vancouver’s Vanier Park.
2Danny and the Deep Blue Sea
The apprentices at Vancouver’s Pacific Theatre continue their year-end projects with a production of John Patrick Shanley’s hard-hitting Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (Jun 28-Jul 1). A violent and sometimes funny portrait of two broken people fumbling towards hope, it is one bar fight without the broken tables. Well, maybe.
3Oh, Canada – The True North Strong and Funny
Happy 150th, Canada! You don’t look a day over 16,000 (or so). The Vancouver TheatreSports League take direct aim at some of our country’s most beloved modern-day institutions in Oh, Canada – The True North Strong and Funny (Jun 29-Sep 2). So don’t be a hoser, eh. Grab your toonies and your double-double, put on your toque and head to Granville Island.
