The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival returns to Sen̓áḵw/Vanier Park in Vancouver for its 35th season with four productions, including Twelfth Night and Hamlet on its BMO Mainstage and The Comedy of Errors and Measure for Measure on the Howard Family Stage.
“With comedy, music, romance, and drama, there’s something for everyone, whether they’re a committed Shakespeare fan or have never been to the theatre before,” says founding artistic director Christopher Gaze. “We’re so thrilled to work with some of Canada’s finest theatre creators to present a unique and diverse season that will make you laugh, make you think, and move you deeply, all in equal parts.”
The season begins on the BMO Mainstage with a new production of Twelfth Night, a romantic comedy set to original music by Vancouver singer-songwriter Veda Hille. It will play in repertory with a contemporary setting of Shakespeare’s tragedy, Hamlet.
On the Howard Family Stage, Rebecca Northan’s adaptation of The Comedy of Errors plays in repertory with Jivesh Parasram’s footloose adaptation of Measure for Measure.
Bard on the Beach will once again host a number of special events, including Fireworks Nights, Wine Wednesdays, Talkback Tuesdays, and more.
The 2024 Bard on the Beach Festival runs from June 11 to September 21. Visit bardonthebeach.org for tickets and more information.
