As You Like It returns to Vanier Park as part of Bard on the Beach’s 34th season

Julius Caesar, Henry V and Goblin:Macbeth round out the offerings this summer in Sen̓áḵw/Vanier Park.

The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival has announced the return of As You Like It, the most successful production in its 33-year history, will return to Sen̓áḵw/Vanier Park as part of the company’s 34th season.

The Beatles-inspired comedy, last produced at the festival in 2018, will share the main stage with a contemporary setting of Shakespeare’s political drama, Julius Caesar.

The Howard Family Stage will play host to a new adaptation of Henry V from Vancouver theatre artist Lois Anderson and Goblin:Macbeth, in which audiences are asked to imagine what if a group of goblins discovered Shakespeare and staged Macbeth.

“Our 34th season offers dynamic productions for theatre lovers of every genre,” says Bard on the Beach’s artistic director Christopher Gaze. “There’s a wealth of romance, rambunctious music, high-spirited comedy, and compelling drama. There is something for all this season, from the committed Shakespeare fan to someone who has never been to Bard before.”

Alongside the four plays, the 34th anniversary season will also feature various special events, including fireworks nights, talkbacks, family days, the return of the Bard Pride Night and more.

The 2023 Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival returns to Sen̓áḵw/Vanier Park in Vancouver from June 8 to September 30. Tickets are on sale now. Visit bardonthebeach.org for more information.
