Before The Curtain Goes Up: Gracie

Fay Theatre / Excavation Theatre presents Gracie at The Cultch's Vancity Culture Lab from February 22-25.

Gracie is the story of a young girl born in a polygamist community. Written by Canadian and Siminovitch prize-winning playwright Joan MacLeod, it will be presented by Fay Theatre / Excavation Theatre at the Vancity Culture Lab from February 22-25.

This one-person show follows the story of Gracie, a young girl growing up in a fundamentalist Latter-Day Saint community tucked away in Bountiful, British Columbia. Through Gracie’s eyes, we see a life enriched by family, community, and faith. However, she dreams of a life beyond what she knows. As the play continues, loved ones are lost to the unavoidable fate of plural marriage and excommunication.

In this edition of Before The Curtain Goes Up, David C Jones speaks with actor Amy King, who plays Gracie, to learn more.

Fay Theatre / Excavation Theatre presents Gracie at the Vancity Culture Lab (1895 Venables St, Vancouver) from February 22-25. Visit thecultch.com for tickets and information.
