Theatre review: The Princess Show is dizzy fun

From Halifax’s Theatre Outré/Heist comes The Princess Show, an eye-popping, campy show highlighting the many talents of Aaron Collier. Produced with his husband Richie Wilcox, The Princess Show is equal parts video game and anime.

It’s a simple tale as Princess Edward is about to give a show in a post-apocalyptic world. Filled with doubt though she encounters a monster that takes the one thing she holds most dear: her husband.

Played against a screen of animated computer graphics, the show is entirely lip synced including the dialogue. The effect is like a foreign film being dubbed live. Princess Edward also stops to do some spectacular drag numbers along the way.

Although a story about an artist having doubts is hardly involving, when the lovers are re-united and perform Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” with wild abandon, it will have you grinning ear-to-ear.

Local drag queens and fans will definitely want to check out this mesmerizing hybrid, complete with music played on a theremin.

The Princess Show is an explosion of colour, campy fun and totally bewitching.

The Princess Show created by Aaron Collier, Richie Wilcox, & Deonie Hudson. A Theatre Outré/Heist production. Playing as part of the 2017 rEvolver Festival. Visit https://revolverfest.ca for tickets and information.
