Theatre Under the Stars announces its summer line-up

The Prom and Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical are set to play at Stanley Park's Malkin Bowl through July and August.

Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) has announced its 2023 musicals, with The Prom and Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical set to play in repertory at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl this July and August.

“This year’s season is full of heart, hope, mischief, and merriment, featuring two of Broadway’s smash hits: the big-hearted comedy, The Prom, and the fast-paced family adventure, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical,” says TUTS general manager Kevin Woo in a media release. “Audiences will be moved by both musicals’ warmth and optimism and their ultimate promise that love always prevails.”

In The Prom, four down-on-their-luck Broadway actors, desperate to improve their public image, rally behind Emma, a teenager whose prom has just been cancelled because she planned to attend with her girlfriend. But their scheming quickly goes sideways, and they ultimately come to learn what everyone is searching for, a place to belong.

Playing on alternating nights is Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical. Set in a small English village, a brilliant little girl with a lively imagination is bullied by her self-absorbed parents and tyrannical headmistress. But using her newfound magical abilities and a big imagination, she sets out to settle the score.

Two-show subscriptions are now on sale through May 17. Early bird single tickets will go on sale on May 25. Visit tuts.ca for more information.
