Jurassic World comes to life in live-action arena show

The only thing that appears to be missing is Chris Pratt

When Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus folded its tents for the last time in 2017, the circus’s producing company, Feld Entertainment, filled the void by branching out to other live theatrical shows. Alongside the popular Disney on Ice franchise, the company produces arena-style shows that include everything from Marvel superheroes to Big Bird.

In a somewhat ironic twist, in one of its newest large-scale productions, the family-owned company trades real circus animals for animatronic and performer-operated dinosaur puppets in Jurassic World Live Tour. A co-production with Universal Pictures, producers of the Jurrasic film franchise, the show makes its Canadian premiere in Vancouver in May.

In an original storyline, taking place in the period between the Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movies, the Indominus Rex has escaped inside the park, and a team of scientists unravel a corrupt plan and save an all-new dinosaur named Jeanie from a terrible fate.

And while this all-new adventure may feature real-life actors, the real stars of this show are the more than 20 life-sized dinosaurs.

Among them is an impressive Tyrannosaurus Rex that stretches to more than 40 feet in length. Each of the custom-built dinosaurs uses some of the latest technology to provide what producers say is “Hollywood studio quality.”

“Working with a world-class production team and Universal filmmakers, we have extended the Jurassic World canon with a new story that can only be told through this live, arena spectacular,” says Juliette Feld Grossman, Feld Entertainment’s chief operating officer.

Jurassic World Live Tour plays the Pacific Coliseum at the PNE (100 N Renfrew St, Vancouver) May 21-24. Tickets go on sale today at ticketleader.ca or visit jurassicworldlivetour.com for more information.
