Pacific Theatre opens its 41st season with an ensemble guest production from Sticks and Stones Theatre, award-winner Will Eno’s Middletown.
“Middletown has been on PT’s dream list for over a decade,” says Kaitlin Williams, Pacific Theatre’s artistic director, “so I am beyond happy to welcome this powerhouse collective of artists to launch our 41st season and turn this dream into a reality. Eno’s script is remarkable – dense, lyrical, and surprisingly funny. I know our audience will be charmed and engaged by the residents of Middletown.”
Mary Swanson arrives in Middletown ready to start her family in a normal suburb. But her new neighbours see the surreal in the status quo and the outer bounds of the universe in their local garden patch. As Mary connects to her community via the magic and tragedy of ordinary experiences, Middletown dives into the big questions: what are beginnings? How should we end? And how are we supposed to deal with all the stuff in between
Middletown is co-directed by Arthi Chandra and Jamie King. The cast of 13 will take us to the heart of town and what it all might mean in this contemporary riff on the American theatre classic Our Town.
